YOUR FIRST VISIT
We ask that you arrive approximately 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time in order to fill out the necessary paperwork. At your appointment time, one of our staff will escort you from the waiting room to the doctor's office where your initial interview will take place.
During the first visit with a RightSPINE physician, a complete medical history is taken. They will review the history, and collect more specific information during your exam. A battery of testing including, testing the joints, muscles and nerve function will be performed. During the exam, they will move certain joints of the spine and/or your limbs in ways that reveal diagnostic information about the problem.
For simple muscle-related back pain, X-rays are of limited value because they donít show muscles and discs, only bones. We may use X-rays to determine if there are any fractured vertebrae after a fall, or if there is a narrowing of the disc space which may imply a disc problem. X-rays are also used to study how the individual bones of the spine respond to movement, and your X-rays may be taken with you bending your neck or back in different directions.
We employ Surface Paraspinal EMG, the latest non-invasive, computerized muscle testing equipment - to evaluate muscular dysfunction. In some cases, you may be referred for an MRI or CT scan to determine what may be causing your pain. These tests are painless, and function simply as a medical photograph of your body.
Allow about an hour for your first examination. We believe in being thorough. |
